Sports Medicine & Non-Operative Orthopedic Physician
Dr. Ashkan Salamatipour is a board-certified sports medicine physician and founder of OC Musculoskeletal Medical Center (OCMSK) in Newport Beach, Orange County, California, specializing in non-surgical orthopedics and neuromusculoskeletal medicine.
His practice focuses on the non-operative diagnosis and treatment of orthopedic and sports-related conditions, including arthritis, tendon and ligament injuries, sports injuries, joint pain, muscle injuries, and peripheral nerve conditions. He specializes in diagnostic and interventional musculoskeletal ultrasound, using real-time ultrasound to evaluate injuries and guide procedures with precision.
Dr. Salamatipour completed his Sports Medicine Fellowship at Indiana University, where he cared for Big Ten collegiate athletes and provided sideline coverage, injury evaluation, and non-operative orthopedic care in Division I athletics.
He currently serves as Head Team Physician for AV Alta FC, a professional men's soccer team, and Team Physician for USA Boxing. His experience spans collegiate, professional, and recreational athletes, including coverage of NCAA championships, national swimming and gymnastics events, marathons, and other high-level competitions.
At OCMSK, Dr. Salamatipour brings this expertise to adolescent and adult patients, from competitive athletes to active and older adults. Alongside his work with athletes, he focuses on non-surgical treatment for osteoarthritis, chronic tendinopathy, degenerative joint conditions, and other orthopedic problems.
Every procedure at OCMSK is performed under real-time ultrasound guidance, allowing Dr. Salamatipour to visualize the relevant anatomy, confirm the source of symptoms, and precisely target the intended structure. His procedural practice includes platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and other orthobiologics, viscosupplementation, prolotherapy, tendon procedures, nerve hydrodissection, and other minimally invasive treatments.
Dr. Salamatipour is also actively involved in academic medicine and medical education. He has published peer-reviewed research, serves as a peer reviewer for medical journals, holds a faculty appointment with the Southwest Healthcare Family Medicine Residency at Palmdale Regional Medical Center, and teaches medical students and residents.
His approach combines the diagnostic rigor of sports medicine, advanced ultrasound-guided procedures, and evidence-based non-operative orthopedic care, with the goal of helping patients remain active and avoid surgery when appropriate.
